Everyones first time in Rust, the most OTT base build video I’ve ever seen, and more.
Welcome
Rust has plenty of shared stories, most of them about naked players meeting their doom. The header is a from another, one you all know the story of. You’ve been both people in Maksn’s comic. Admit it.
Swaggy The Fox
The best thing about Rust right now is how good people are at showing off their in-game skills. I clicked on Swaggy The Fox’s base build assuming I’d be watching a usual build vid, but the opening completely blew me away. His base, The Monster, is well made, but the editing of the opening is incredible. Completely ridiculous for what it is, but that just makes me love it more.

It’s getting harder and harder to show off base build videos without flinching at some of the clipping people take advantage of to make them, but if these tricks are out there you might as well know about them. You won’t be building a base to these exact specs, anyway. You know, this ridiculous video reminded me of Pimp my Base by The Grumpy Spanner, who I hadn’t heard from for a while. So I checked his channel…
Grumpy Spanner Returns!
Incredible timing. His channel has been quiet for months, but when I looked in there’s a new video. The first in four months. Just a little bit of Rust being played, but it’s nicely edited. Welcome back!

This might seem like I’m lying, but I literally did remember he existed and check his channel. It was meant to be.
Xtab’s Skins Round-Up
Gordon Xtab–for that is definitely his name–probably knows more about Rust skins than anyone I know. His skill making expertise isn’t just put into making and promoting his own work on the Workshop, but he’s also been taking time out to review and suggest other skins people might be interested in. I’ve always struggled a little with the implication of linking to skins being voted on via the blog, but Garry told me that it was fine and also that I need to put trousers on when I’m talking to him, so here we are. When skins work again, some of these might end up in the game.

Now you’ve read all that, you should also take a look at Xtab’s work.
Reddit Concepts
Reddit loves concepts because *insert something screenshottable and snarky in here, Craig – don’t you dare forget*; we love concepts because we’re lazy and can just cut and paste them into the game. Job done. And thanks to xanan/muchloves for thinking up ways to make the game better. Here’s a link to the latest post, but these have been going for a short while now.

Disclaimer: I am not a programmer, and I apparently “over-stepped my bounds” by suggesting we could just cut and paste these into the game. I am very sorry and bleeding quite heavily right now. Do not anger programmers, people. There’s also a concept for using the tool cupboard as a tool cupboard. Madness.
Mike The Vike Base Tour
I’m a sucker for a base tour, especially those done on live servers, so I do enjoy Mike The Vike’s tours of bases on his server. It’s always funny to hear someone crack up when looking at a base.

It’s be cool to talk to the water base guys to get their input on what they made.
And Finally…
If you’re using Rust as a way of avoiding getting ripped, then Captain Tri is here to shame you. He plays Rust on a treadmill.

He even has an extra long mouse cable to reach from his streaming PC.
Get In Touch
Think you’re working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Share your base designs, show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme.
There’s a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I’m on there as well.
I can’t respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
